Steuart Goodwin Pipe Organs

Tonal Finishing      Organ Case Designs      Small Pipe Organs

The Mormon Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, Utah

This photo was taken during one of the many ten-day trips I spent voicing and regulating thousands of flue pipes in this organ during the mid-1980's.   Jack Bethards, President and Tonal Director of Schoenstein & Co. worked from the console, listening to the sound of each pipe in the room and advising me if the sound needed changing in any way.  Pipes can be made louder or softer, brighter or duller, and the initial attack can be modified.  The object is to make every pipe meld perfectly with the other pipes in a set; balance the level of every set of pipes from bass to treble; and to make each rank work with other ranks in an ensemble.
